Who is a Prophet?
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you part, I appointed you a Prophet to the nations." Jeremiah 1:5
A Prophet is a special witness for Christ, testifying His Divinity and teaching His gospel. A Prophet teaches truth and interprets the word of God. He calls the unrighteous to repentance. He receives revelations and directions from the Lord for our benefits. He may see into the future and foretell coming events so that the world may be warned. "Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but Revealeth His secrets unto His servants the prophets" (Amos 3:7). It is a misconception as many get off-course doctrinally by thinking that a Prophet is only a seer and his function is to prophesy to people, I say that is only a small part of his Ministry.
Ephesians 4:11-13. It was He who gave some to be Apostles some to be Prophets, some to be Evangelist and some to be Pastors and Teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service…
Christ gave the Prophets to the church as a gift and the main function of a Prophet is to equip the saints to do the work of service, the Prophets equips the church with eyes to see and ears to hear. The Grace that Prophet carry can literally cause people to be able to hear the voice of the Spirit. Prophets have the authority to correct and direct because they are part of the government of God.
A Prophet, not only a seer but as a mouth piece of God. He is a preacher of righteousness who spent most of his ministry preaching against evil and warning on God's judgment.
